Carbon dating doesn’t work — debunked
Living snails that carbon-date to 2,300 years old, a living seal that was carbon-dated at 1,300 years old, and 8,000-year-old living penguins. Not to mention dinosaur bones that dated to 20,000 years ago. Obviously carbon dating doesn’t work, unless you understand it. Here’s the explanation that even a 5th-grader can understand.

@TerminalMontage Everything getting it’s carbon from the air and land yes, because that’s what the scale is based on. They found the average intake, and the level of decay, and they make an estimate based off that. If the organism is taking in carbon via other means then carbon dating isn’t used.

Yes, they are. The circumstances under which decay rates can vary are known pretty well, and we learn more about them every year. Mostly, the circumstances are very particular, do not usually occur on Earth, and can be easily recognized if and when they do.

I don’t even think they are assuming the rate of decay is constant anymore. Scientists have tried pretty much everything to change the decay rate without any succes at all except in one very extreme case where they did something completely unlike what’s on earth (don’t remember it) and the half life seemed to change about 0.5%
