When I started using php, the first thing I did was build an ecommerce application. The way I learned was using the PHP Bible (Amazon.com : PHP Bible) and PHP.net. You MUST learn how to create a database using PHPMyAdmin (a simple interface to build a database), then learn how to do the following with your database. - connect to - insert data into - update data in - delete from Other than that, it's just a matter of deciding what you need to do next. I often start with the admin area to create accounts manually. This builds a foundation for a user base. Then I build the section to add products, then edit products, then delete products.... in your case it would be easier. You can build your user base, how you'll pair your members together by common questions (ie age, sex, smoke, kids). It will snowball from there!!
