How to create a small Social Network or Dating site using PHP?
I already know basics of PHP, but I think the best way to learn more is to create a website. I would like to create a Social Network or Dating site using PHP, and I would like to know if there is a good book(s) or website(s) that can help me. If you know any, please let me know.

sorry but php alone is not going to get an entire dating site running you need to have some knowledge in databses and some understanding in PHP already aswell.

Some books to start off with if you have never used PHP before or aren’t to confident with PHP would be the Dummies series (Php and MySQL). If you didn’t really want to program, then Poppydog offer some free things to help you.

That are no books or websites that teach you this but try to build your php pages in parts, like login, register, navigation and finally, combine them together at the end.

Congrats on your desire to do more with php. When I started using php, the first thing I did was build an ecommerce application.
The way I learned was using the PHP Bible (Amazon.com : PHP Bible) and PHP.net. You MUST learn how to create a database using PHPMyAdmin (a simple interface to build a database), then learn how to do the following with your database.
– connect to
– insert data into
– update data in
– delete from
Other than that, it’s just a matter of deciding what you need to do next. I often start with the admin area to create accounts manually. This builds a foundation for a user base. Then I build the section to add products, then edit products, then delete products…. in your case it would be easier. You can build your user base, how you’ll pair your members together by common questions (ie age, sex, smoke, kids). It will snowball from there!!
